What are Solar Street Light Components?


How much do you know about the important components of solar street lights?


Solar energy is an endless, inexhaustible, clean, non-polluting, and renewable green energy source. Utilizing solar energy for electricity generation offers unparalleled cleanliness, high safety, relatively widespread and abundant energy sources, long lifespan, and low maintenance, among other advantages that conventional energy sources do not possess.



1. Working Principle of Solar Street Lights


During the day, solar street lights, under the control of an intelligent controller, absorb solar energy by means of solar panels exposed to sunlight, converting it into electrical energy. The solar panel modules charge the lithium battery pack during the day. At night, the lithium battery pack provides power to the LED light source, enabling illumination. The direct current controller ensures that the lithium battery pack is not damaged due to overcharging or over-discharging. It also incorporates functions such as light control, time control, temperature compensation, lightning protection, and reverse polarity protection.


2. Solar Panel Modules

Solar panel modules are composed of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells, ultra-clear textured toughened glass, EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate), transparent TPT back sheet, and an aluminum alloy frame. They have characteristics such as long lifespan and strong mechanical resistance to external forces. Selection Requirements:

① They should provide sufficient mechanical strength, enabling the solar panel modules to withstand the stress generated during transportation, installation, and usage, including impacts and vibrations. They should also be able to withstand the force of hailstones.

② They should have good sealing properties, protecting the solar cells from corrosion under atmospheric conditions, and offering resistance to wind and water.

③ They should exhibit good electrical insulation properties.

④ They should have strong resistance to ultraviolet radiation.

⑤ They should be designed for different working voltages and output power requirements, providing various wiring methods to meet different voltage, current, and power output needs.

⑥ They should minimize efficiency losses due to the series and parallel combination of solar cells.

⑦ The connections of the solar cells should be reliable.

⑧ They should have a long operational lifespan, with a requirement of at least 5 years of usage under natural conditions.


3. High-Power LED Light Source Features

① Utilizes a single high-power LED (30W-100W) as the light source, employing a unique design with multiple chips integrated into a single module light source. It is advisable to use imported high-brightness chips.


② Features an integrated design of the heat sink and lamp housing, where the LED is in direct contact with the housing. Heat dissipation is achieved through the housing's heat dissipation fins and natural air convection, ensuring a usage lifespan of 50,000 hours for the LED street light. Calculated based on 12 hours of daily operation, its lifespan exceeds 10 years, with extremely low maintenance costs.


③ The lamp surface undergoes anti-UV and anti-corrosion treatment, and it is sealed with high-temperature foamed silicone, effectively preventing dust and water ingress. The overall lamp protection achieves an IP65 rating.


④ Utilizes a single elliptical aluminum reflector cavity in combination with a multi-surface vacuum-coated reflector. This design effectively controls the light emitted by the LED within the req

uired range, improving the uniformity of the lamp's light distribution and the utilization of light energy. It highlights the energy-saving advantages of LED street lights. Compared to traditional sodium lamps, it can save over 70% in electricity.


⑤ No adverse glare or flickering. Eliminates the eye discomfort, visual fatigue, and line-of-sight interference caused by poor glare in conventional street lights, thereby enhancing driving safety.


⑥ Instant start-up without delay. Reaches normal brightness immediately upon power-up, eliminating the long start-up process associated with traditional street lights.


⑦ Environmentally friendly and pollution-free: Free from pollution elements such as lead and mercury, causing no harm to the environment.


⑧ An excellent match with solar energy, fully leveraging the advantages of LED's low-voltage, direct current operation and energy efficiency. The combination of solar photovoltaic panels and LED light sources provides customers with the best cost-effectiveness and high reliability.


4. Solar Lithium Battery Pack (Integrated Lithium Battery and Controller) --Requirements for Better Environmental Substitution and Environmental Impact Mitigation


① Lithium batteries do not emit CO2 and SO2, and they do not produce noise, solid waste, and other pollutants associated with conventional power generation. They are one of the important renewable energy technologies today.

② High-quality ternary lithium cells are used, featuring explosion-proof safety valves, even electrolytes, high energy density, multi-layer high-temperature-resistant separators, and high-quality positive and negative electrodes with lower internal resistance. They have a service life of more than 8 years and can operate within a temperature range of -25 to 55°C.

③ The lithium battery protection board must-have functions for overcharging, over discharging, short-circuit protection, and temperature protection.

④ The controller requires efficient charging and can support series-connected PWM/MPPT charging methods to extend the battery's lifespan. It should offer comprehensive protection functions, including short-circuit protection, overcurrent protection, low-voltage protection, overvoltage protection, and lightning protection. The controller should be configurable for various battery types and parameters, suitable for both enclosed and open lithium battery packs. It should support manual switching for continuous power supply solar systems, offer multiple load operating modes, configurable timing options, and multi-time segment, multi-power load control methods. It should be rated at IP68 waterproof level, feature an aluminum casing for durability in harsh environments, and offer infrared remote control for user-friendly operation.

⑤ Standard connection cables and connectors should be used when the product leaves the factory, with functions for preventing reverse connection and connection errors. It should have an IP67 protection rating for waterproof and dustproof capabilities.

⑥ The housing should provide functions for waterproofing, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, and thermal insulation.


5.Lamp Post


There are six technical requirements that should be met for road lamp posts:



① Double-arm road lamps consist of two single-head lamps. The height of the lamps above the ground is 11.5 meters for the lamps on the motor vehicle lanes and 8.5 meters for the lamps on pedestrian walkways. They are arranged on both sides with a cross spacing of 50 meters. The light source for the lamps on the fast lanes is a 120W LED lamp with three light sources, and the light source for the pedestrian walkway lamps is an 80W LED lamp.

② The lamp post material is made of high-quality Q235A steel (the silicon content of the steel is not higher than 0.04%, reference brands include Baosteel, Magang, Shougang, etc.). The tapered pole is bent and formed in one step. The lamp post is made of 4mm thick steel plate, and the wall thickness of the lamp post does not include the thickness of the galvanized layer. The main post of the lamp post is a tapered pole with an upper mouth diameter of approximately 85mm and a lower mouth diameter of approximately 200mm. The arms use 60mm diameter steel pipes, with an overhang length of 1.6 meters for the motor vehicle lane and 1.2 meters for the pedestrian walkway, with a wall thickness of 3mm.

③ The surface of the lamp post is smooth and should not have any cracks, welding leakage, continuous pores, edge biting, unevenness, or other defects. The straightness error of the lamp post's centerline should not exceed 0.02% of the pole length. The exterior of the pole should be smooth and free from blemishes.

④ The welding method for the lamp post is automatic sub-arc welding, ultrasonic flaw detection inspection, meeting the requirements of welding GB1345 Class II standards. The lamp post coupling is fixed with through pins and locking nuts.

⑤ The lamp post is treated with hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection. The zinc layer thickness should be no less than 75 micrometers, with a practical smooth surface, consistent color, no peeling or flaking after hammer impact testing, and a galvanizing lifespan of no less than 20 years.

⑥ The lamp post powder coating should use high-quality outdoor pure polyester powder, with the color to be determined. The surface should be smooth, and the powder coating should be stable, without fading or peeling, strong adhesion, resistance to strong ultraviolet radiation, and a service life of no less than 20 years. The thickness should be ≥80um, meeting the ASTMD339-83 standard.
