Art Center Lighting Design

Hangyu Art Center is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Zhongding Road and Huannan No. 3 Road in Shizhong District, with a construction area of 1614.38 square meters. The overall architectural form is a geometric shape with very sharp edges and corners, and the material is fair-faced concrete.

Therefore, the lighting designer must outline the shape of the building and express the material of the building clearly in the design process.
In the outline of the architectural form, we used three methods:

The first is to hide the linear lights in the concrete joints, creating the concept of stacking the entire building. The power of the linear lamp is 15w/m and the color temperature is 4000k. This kind of lighting brightness ranks first in the overall lighting of this project, and people will pay attention to this shape as soon as they see the entire building.

The second is to hide the hook-edge lamps on the grille, where the linear lamps use 15w/m like the lamps at the concrete joints, and the brightness is also consistent with the concrete joints. It can not only highlight the shape of the grille, but also integrate the grille and the concrete building through the shape of the light.

The third method is to use lights to emphasize the corners of the building to make the whole building more three-dimensional. In the overall lighting planning, the brightness level of the lighting here is in the third gradient, so the power should not be too high. We chose 30w and used two different angles of 15 degrees and 36 degrees to achieve this. The 15-degree light fixture emphasizes the sharp top corner, and the 36-degree light fixture emphasizes the transitional sense of the overall light effect.

In highlighting the building materials, wall washer lights are used to hold up the bottom of the building in the form of surface light. The slight bumps and convexities of fair-faced concrete, after being illuminated by light, appear as broken shadows. The brightness of the lighting here is ranked second. It cannot be higher than the linear lamp on the hook or lower than the lighting at the corner, and also consider that the irradiation surface cannot be too high, so we choose to wash the wall with 15w/m Light buried wire type lights to achieve.
